Author, Gigi Sedlmayer’s third book in the Talon series, “Flight for Life” is a great read on its own!
Author Sedlmayer does a superb job at portraying Matica brooding about leaving the village where she lives comfortably with her family, the natives and the condors. She finally agrees to journey down the mountain to Cajamarca with her father to purchase supplies and the tickets for their family vacation to Australia.
While on their trek Matica experiences many of the wonders of Peru. Author Sedlmayer does a wonderful job weaving the tales of wild animals like spider monkeys, a puma, the chameleon and even a Tapir into this story along with a host of other critters and bugs. She adds known facts about the colorful birds, the Macaw and Toucan. Then she takes the reader on a walk with Matica among the Giant Lobelias plants and into the rain forest with its stifling heat and assortment of insects. She goes on to include the unique vegetation and trees that live in the mountains, plateaus and rainforest and creatures that live in the rivers.
Follow Matica and her father as she learns about the danger she encounters when one type of piranhas single her out as she wades in the river to cool off.
Talon and his parents are never far behind as they circle high above always within earshot. When Matica and her father exit the rainforest they enter the grasslands where they meet up with Talon and his parents.
Their travels take them to the village of Bambamarca where they meet the village chief and his people. Here they learn the true story of the condors as they watch Matica and Talon communicate.
Matica, her father and the condors continue on their trip as Matica wonders how many others knew of her relationship with the condors.
Talon and his parents check in on Matica and her father as they ride the ferry across the wide river to the city of Cajamarca. Once the ferry docks, Matica finds herself once again in a whole new world but finds that poaching is still a major threat to many animals and the condors as she learns of the story of Chaka the baby puma.
Fearing that poachers now know of the condors Matica wants to leave the big city. Preoccupied, Matica forgets about the dangers that lurked in the brush and trees of the forest.
Hours away from home, her father is bitten by a poisonous spider. Will Matica be able to save him? You will have to read the story to find out.
Although this is a rather lengthy story the author has done a superb job with vivid detail to make the reader feel as if he/she is on an adventure of a lifetime, I do recommend it.

Flight and Fight for Life

ByBoyko Ovcharovon 3 October 2013

Format: Kindle Edition

In fact, this amazing author keeps surprising me with her innocent narrative, first-hand accounts, lively description and positive outlook on life amidst terrible circumstances.
One thing that really struck me in her biography was her successful life struggle with cancer some time ago, which I profoundly admire, especially when reminiscing upon my late mother’s destiny.
I also deeply respect people who have seen a lot in their lives, travelled around the world and immersed themselves into various cultures. One could definitely learn so many things from their wisdom.
In that respect, I was intrigued to know more about fossicking and I certainly have found some treasures for myself in Matica’s adventures.
Finally, I am sure you will find yours here as well.
